(Jackie to Linda): How are you able to recognize when you need a "change in perspective"?
I believe with all my heart that we are intelligent beings, and that our bodies send us signals long before our minds become consciously aware that we need to change our perspective in order to enjoy life. Personally, the way that I discern when I need to change my perspective is by pausing from whatever I am doing, inhaling deeply, exhaling and doing what I call the "Philippians Test." I ask myself the following question, "Is what I am putting all my attention towards true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy?" (Phil 4:8).
(Linda to Jackie): How can we benefit from understanding that perception changes everything?
Objectivity is one of the greatest skills that a person can gain to deal with obstacles, especially when they are unexpected. I believe that most individuals live off of habits and that infusing a new perspective is key to advancing one’s life. Without it, we are simply not advancing our lives and careers.
(Jackie to Linda): What are the challenges that you see in finding objectivity that allows you to become aware of a new perspective?
If what I am immersing all of my attention into personally or professionally at any point causes me to feel an internal strain of pressure, stress or imbalance, I intentionally challenge myself to become more grateful in that very moment. Being grateful helps me find the objectivity I need to combat the common challenges that come with being stuck in a rut and see things anew.
(Linda to Jackie): What are some practical ways to change one's perspective?
There are several things one can do to change his/her perspective. Here are some ideas:
Record your thoughts on audio and then play it back- you will create a new beautiful perspective of the person on the audio file and then realize it’s you!
Write down your thoughts and ideas and review it periodically
Immerse yourself in nature for a couple of hours to relax, reflect and meditate ... A new refreshed perspective will be revealed to you.
Talk to someone you have not talked to in a while
Read a book of a topic you have been wanting to learn about
Visit a new place
Change your routine completely for a day
Go fly in a small aircraft
Go sailing on a boat or a yatch
Experience adrenaline by participating in a car race
Learn 10 words and the story behind them in a new language
Take a deep “happiness” breath
(Jackie to Linda): What do you do when others around you do not support you?
It's easy to get caught up in thinking about all the people who did not have your back in the past or worse, those you expected would the most but truly never did. Instead, I remember and focus on those who do. These are the people in my life who have continually held me accountable, loved me in my worse and supported me in my best. I allow these individuals the opportunity to speak words of life into me, and I thank God for them everyday.
(Linda to Jackie): How does having a game plan change the way you meet your personal and professional commitments?
"If you don’t know where you are going, you have already arrived.” This is a phrase that reminds me every day of the importance of focusing on short and long term goals. In addition, the definition of commitment is “doing something that is important, but not urgent.” Every goal and dream should have a pragmatic and strategic plan of action and a measurement tool to help you get there.
